About us

Built by a parent, for parents.

Lyceum Mundi was founded in Sunrise, Florida — to give children a serious education without the chaos, and to put parents back in charge of it.

Based in Sunrise, Florida

We are a Florida company, built first for Florida families. Everything about Lyceum Mundi — the curriculum, the records, the evaluator network — is designed around Florida's home-education law and the way a Florida transcript is read. We started here, with our own children, and we are growing outward from home.

The founder

Lyceum Mundi was founded by John Huelgas, J.D. (with High Distinction), LL.M. (Taxation) — a graduate of UCLA and NYU School of Law, and an internationally renowned lawyer. He did not set out to build a school. He set out to solve a problem for his own children.

★ A note from the founder

My children were deeply unsatisfied with the online schooling options available to them — and the alternatives were worse. At some of Broward County's most respected public and private schools alike, they ran into the drugs, the violence, and the everyday misbehavior that quietly crowd real learning out of the room.

I wanted something better for them: a genuinely rigorous, classical education, taught patiently, one-on-one, on our own terms and under our own roof. When I couldn't find it, we built it. Lyceum Mundi is the school I made for my own kids first — and then opened to yours.

A new kind of school

Lyceum Mundi is the first program of its kind: a classical education delivered by a full AI faculty, assembled around a single child. Enrolling doesn't mean dropping your child into a generic course catalog. It begins by getting to know your child.

We get to know your child

Through a detailed enrollment process, you tell us about your child's needs and ambitions, your goals as a parent, and the curriculum you're looking for — and we respond with our own recommendations.

We assign a faculty

Lyceum Mundi then assigns an entire suite of faculty to your student — a dedicated specialist for every subject, chosen for your child's plan.

On call 24/7

Every faculty member is available around the clock, every day — because each one is AI-driven, not a single overstretched person.

In the eyes of Florida law, you remain the home educator of record and Lyceum Mundi is the tool you teach with. The "school" is a new kind — one with no building, no staffroom, and no human teachers — but you are always the one directing it.

"Isn't the human teacher the whole point?"

Removing the most common point of failure.

It gives some parents pause at first — it did for us. But raising our own children through it, we came to see that the human element is so often the cause of failure, not the cure. A student clashes with a teacher's personality. Some teachers are simply better than others. And every human teacher, however gifted, gets sick, has bad days, and eventually leaves for a better job — taking their attention with them.

Lyceum Mundi removes that variable and hands the controls to you, the parent. Backed by some of the most advanced AI in the world, it learns from each child's background and progress — and adapts, patiently and consistently, until they succeed.

Meet our mascot

Noctua, the owl of Lyceum Mundi

Every great school keeps a companion, and ours is Noctua — our Strix Sapiens, the wise owl. Since antiquity the owl has been the emblem of wisdom and the companion of Athena and her Roman counterpart Minerva: the one creature that sees clearly in the dark and keeps its watch while the world sleeps.

That is exactly what we set out to build. Noctua stands for a faculty that is patient, watchful, and always there — wisdom that never tires, never loses its temper, and never leaves for a better post. For a student, he is the calm companion through every hard problem and every late night. For a parent, he is our quiet promise: your child is always guided, and your home is a place of serious learning.

In full cap and gown, Noctua keeps watch over our student store — and, we hope, over a desk in your home.

Our motto

Per litteras, per orbem

Through letters, through the world. A real education, taught at home — built by a family that needed it, for families who do too.

See what we built — then make it yours.
